Compress an image to 2 MB

Need a photo that is no larger than 2 MB? Drop it below and we automatically find the highest quality that fits within 2 MB.

100% private: processed on your device, nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Choose or drag your image into the box above. The limit is already set to 2 MB.
  2. We try different quality levels and, if necessary, slightly smaller dimensions.
  3. Download your image: at most 2 MB whenever that is technically possible.

When do you need an image of 2 MB?

Rental and housing platforms, insurance claims, online marketplaces and many upload forms accept photos up to 2 MB. Phone photos of 3–6 MB can almost always be reduced to 2 MB without a visible difference.

How we get to 2 MB

We keep the original dimensions and lower the quality only as far as needed. Only if 2 MB cannot be reached that way is the image scaled down a little, because a smaller sharp photo looks better than a large blurry one.

Frequently asked questions

My phone photo is 5 MB. Will it look worse at 2 MB?

Usually not. Phone cameras save photos at a very high quality setting. Reduced to 2 MB, a 12-megapixel photo normally keeps its full resolution, and the difference is not visible on screen.

Why is my 2 MB result sometimes only 1.5 MB?

If a photo already looks perfect at the highest quality setting (92%), we stop there: making the file bigger would not add visible quality.

Will my image be exactly 2 MB?

It will be at most 2 MB, usually slightly below. We count 1 KB as 1000 bytes, so the file also passes upload checks that count 1 KB as 1024 bytes.
